Human Heart Explodes at NY Gypsy Film Fest
So this isn't happening in Hartford (I didn't say everything was going to be just about our fair city, did I), but it does involve me and a film I worked on. Human Heart Explodes produced, directed, and edited with Matthew Orefice in Macedonia during June 2006 will be playing at the New York Gypsy Film Festival. The documentary tells the story of Safet Tirov (pic. left), a Roma citizen of Macedonia, dealing with day to day issues of establishing a kindergarten for Roma children. The more complex issues deal with a country left behind due to the disbanding of the Soviet Union and the struggle for identity in a nation some don't even want to acknowledge (say, Greece).
Quicktime Trailer
It will be interesting to see how it's received as I've only been at two of the screenings. Any New Yorker friends, please come and ask questions. I keep meaning to put up the production diary of the film, but perhaps it's too far gone now. What do you think?
