"She is a River" at the Growing Green Coop Friday night

Front Cover to She is a River by Sugati

Our friends, the Phillips clan, are finally starting on their trek to live life via bio-dieseled school bus. Tonight, at The Alchemy Cafe on New Britain Ave., Sugati will be presenting her book, She is a River. Go enjoy some organic, free-trade and local products and support local artists before they leave on their journey.
From their email:
This Friday Sugati will be selling & signing her new book, "She is a River" at the Growing Green Coop (located next to the Alchemy Juice Bar) for the Green Gift Marketplace from 6-10pm. It's a great opportunity to say good-bye to all of us and support Sugati!

Hope to see all of you!
Chris, Sugati, Sirena and Sky

LoRes Fest: YouTube and Kino Kafé events

LoRes Fest '06: Come to Hartford by HartBeat Ensemble

Check it out:
Bored with the same ol', same ol' programs on the television? Don't feel like it's worth going out to the movies to see the same rehashed plot once again? Then why not enjoy and support some local, DIY, community filmmaking instead! Capitol Cinema Collective has two reasons to be thankful for this season: LoRes Fest has it's own YouTube Channel, and Kino Kafé at La Paloma Sabanera will be presenting a free screening of the completed LoRes Fest '08 on Tuesday, December 2nd, at 7:30 pm. For more information, email loresfest(at)gmail.com.
LoResFest '08 offered any individual or team of people an opportunity to create a short film, captured over 24 hours in the city of Hartford. Participants will be provided with a single-use video camera and be given one common requirement, a uniting thread for all of the shorts; this year was 'community/neighborhoods'. The shorts were edited and then combined into a feature project.

The LoRes Fest YouTube channel will feature the individual shorts from the previous two years, as well as the the feature-length pieces which are bridged with vignettes not seen in the individual shorts.

On Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008, join us and the filmmakers for a free screening of this year's completed project at the traditional LoRes Fest HeadQuarters, La Paloma Sabanera Coffeehouse, at 405 Capitol Avenue, Hartford, CT. This is part of the now monthly Kino Kafé screening series. Kino Kafe is a free film series, and is the first project of the Capitol Cinema Collective. It has been a wildly successful venture.

Kino Kafe is a welcoming environment where anyone can sign up to be a curator and screen a film of their choice. Over the years we've shown classics, documentaries, art-house darlings, short films, anthologies, experimental pieces, French action films, Japanese & Brazilian horror films and just about everything in between.

Shameless Plug: DVDs of the LoRes Fest films (2006-2008) will be available for purchase. They make great stocking stuffers!
