Hey Kids! Free Comics today!

Buried Under Comics FCBD commercial by Rabbit Ears Media

The best comic book store in the central Connecticut, Buried Under Comics at 188 West Middle Turnpike, Manchester, will once again be participating in the annual Free Comic Book Day. To help them get the word out, as they are my favorite place to shop, unwind, and chat in 'Fanboyese', Rabbit Ears Media created this commercial for them which will air on COX Cable in Manchester and surrounding. If you don't live in that area, view the ad here and on YouTube. Feel free to share it on your blog/website and help them promote it. It's a great family day event and the crew at Buried Under Comics really makes it a fun experience for everyone (and tell them where you heard about it for extra special reward -- my gratitude!).

For 8 years now, the comic book industry has been promoting itself with an event called "Free Comic Book Day", where publishers offer select comics for FREE as incentive for new readership. While sales don't hurt, the community aspect is to promote literacy and the independent neighborhood shops that specialize in selling comic books and merchandise.

Frankly, while my taste in comics has matured, comic books were my introduction to reading in both English and Portuguese while growing up, while also the cornerstone of the foundation for my appreciation of illustration and visual storytelling as art. That building block led to my ever growing curiosity of other artforms and other cultures and ways of life as I was introduced to them via art, movies, books, and comics. It's really how I ended up doing a lot of what I do today, from blogging, to video work, to the film festival and film community in Hartford.

Like a true 'fanboy', many friendships and relationships were born from appreciation of comic books. And Buried Under Comics is my little oasis; while the books fuel my imagination and creativity, the staff and other customers there have created a community that I cherish. They'll help you find that issue you're missing or if you're looking to pick up a new series, they can recommend it to you. If anything, it's a place where you're imagination can flourish; after all, 'the walls are made of AWESOME!"
